Act III also served to confirm my opinion regarding another of the stellar performances of this production, the Amonasro of baritone Jerett Gieseler.

Gieseler...continued to demonstrate what a powerful dramatic and vocal personality he is.

As the captured Ethiopian king Amonasro, Gieseler was a commanding stage presence from his very first lines. His every delivery was rock-solid in technique, with beautiful lower notes. Every line proclaimed his regal authority (even in captivity), and in Act III he projected a character of palpable menace, a wily army leader who could yet defeat Egypt’s forces — even if it meant sacrificing his daughter’s happiness. -- David Lindauer, Capital Gazette

Another sonorous voice was displayed by returning baritone Jerett Gieseler, who was a memorable Scarpia in Annapolis Opera's 2010 "Tosca" when The Baltimore Sun praised his "rich voice and strong acting skills." As Amonasro, Gieseler was the last to arrive on the scene after the Triumphal March and immediately dazzled with his gorgeous full sound and display of seemingly effortless power. -- Mary Johnson, Baltimore Sun

Jerett Gieseler as the arrogant bullfighter Escamillo, also presented their parts confidently. Gieseler looked especially formidable during the famous “Toreador” song, and he tossed off several imaginary shots of rum with aplomb. -- Michael Saffle, Roanoke Times

03.21.10Tosca, Annapolis Opera

"Having seen every Annapolis Opera production during the past 16 years, I would rank this "Tosca" near the top for its powerful singers, who were able to create intense drama with the Annapolis Opera Orchestra. As Scarpia, baritone Jerett Gieseler held his own with [Tosca] and [Cavaradossi], displaying a rich voice and strong acting skills...[a] stellar trio of principals." - Mary Johnson, The Baltimore Sun

“If there was a winner for the evening it was baritone Jerett Gieseler who was uppermost in his dramatic flare. He has a powerful voice and he uses excellent phrase breathing. He covers dramatic phrases perfectly so that they give the listener ‘goosebumps’.” - Bob Anthony, allartsreview4u.com

“.....but the real event was last night's concert. I've been to many (maybe 5 or 6) of the Emerging Singers Concerts over these many years, but I'm not sure I have heard any to equal that one. At such events one guesses which of the young singers might make it to the Met as a headliner. My pick last night was the baritone, Jerett Gieseler, who sang arias from "Dutchman" and "Parsifal." He's ready for prime time now.” - Internet blog
